Okra

A packet will plant a 10 ft row (40 seeds)

Start seeds early in the year in a sunny window and transplant when 3-4 inches into the garden in mid May when the soil is warm.  The plants can stand a foot apartand need some room for growth.

In midsummer the hibiscus like yellow flowers will be replaced by pods.  Keep the pods harvested at a young stage (3-4 inches) to allow the plants to continue producing.

Leave the remaining pods late in the season mature and turn brown.  The dried stalks with ripened pods are full of black or gray seed make interesting ornamentals.
