Livingston Gold Ball

from 3.99

Old heirloom introduced and bred by the Livingston's Seed Co. It's often amazing to hear the argument that modern hybrids produce better than "heirlooms". The prominent myth about heirlooms is that while they are superior in taste; they lack vigor, productivity and disease resistance. I love taking "hybrid believers' out to tour the field and show them old heirlooms like this one that rival hybrids and challenges their ideas about heirlooms.  It's been a great reliable producer of small round yellow tomatoes that we grow every year. Very good disease resistance here on Long Island.

From Livingston's catalog of 1911

"It is a golden-yellow variety, and no other of the sort, except our Golden Queen, can approach it in quality. The flesh is extra thick and of extra good quality; not so large as Golden Queen, but large enough to slice; smooth as an apple and of a handsome gold color; grows in clusters; produces enormous crops."
